confused about groningen:: Posted by albemuth on June 22, 2007
Is it just me or is anyone else confused by Fripp’s remarks about the Groningen Guitar Duo? Apparently, Fripp received a CD in the mail called The Crimson King Fantasy. He says this CD came from a "mad person." … My question: If there is something wrong with the arrival of this CD, what the heck is it? Is the performance bad? Is the disk an awful interpretation? Is it wrong to interpret KC’s music? Did the sender of the CD make demands on Fripp? … So I am sorry if the Groningen Guitar Duo disk (which I have not heard) is a failed experiment.
The Groningen GD are not, as far as I know, mad. Although some might argue that anyone who:
1. is inclined to arrange / play KC material;
2. invites the opinion of the HRV English guitarist of Crim on their versions of KC classics;
3. sends him a disc of such;
is at-least-a-little-bit suspect on the compus mentis chart. Typing this in, I have now come to realise: the Groningens are utterly barking! Until just now, I had relied only on the evidence of the CD’s music & playing, I had believed The GDD to be a highly talented contemporary guitar duet. But now, I know. Thank you, Guestbook, for prompting this reflection.
